What Are HiSorb Oil Absorbing Polymers?

HiSorb oil absorbing polymers are unique and completely organic polymers which internally absorb oil, hydrocarbons and many liquid chemicals into its plastic structure. Hydrocarbons exist as oils, fragrances, specialty chemicals, fuels, and aromatic solvents.

How Are HiSorb Oil Absorbing Polymers Unique?

HiSorb oil absorbing polymers function by first attracting hydrocarbons to the surface of the polymer to adsorb the liquid followed immediately by internally absorbing the media into its structure. HiSorb oil absorbing polymers will not absorb water which lends the material a unique usefulness for separating and collecting hydrocarbons from water mixtures. Most notably, the polymer can commonly absorb from 20% to 200% or more of its own weight of chemical or petroleum derived liquids. Furthermore, because of the unique absorption characteristic of the material, HiSorb becomes dry to the touch shortly after sorption.

Why HiSorb Oil Absorbing Polymers?

Other sorption materials are available in the marketplace but function by way of adsorption or surface attraction alone. Examples of other adsorbents include naturally organic materials, cellulose based adsorbents, ground corn cob husks, clay, polypropylene fibrous fluff, silicates, and micro cellular foamed polyolefins to name a few. Each of these sorption options adsorb water competing with their capacity to hold hydrocarbon liquids. HiSorb oil absorbing polymers are the only known completely organic polymeric materials to selectively and singularly adsorb and absorb hydrocarbon liquids.

In What Form are HiSorb Oil Absorbing Polymers Available?

HiSorb oil absorbing polymers are available directly from Hitech Polymers Inc. in the form of standard 0.125 inch diameter pellets, micropellets of approximately 0.050 inch diameter, or continuous strands in diameters of 0.050 inch to 0.125 inch and above. HiSorb resins are extrudable, formable, moldable, grindable and foamable permitting the polymers to be converted into the form or application of your choice. The natural color of HiSorb polymers is translucent white but they may be colored if desirable. HiSorb polymer density, base resin type, absorption rate and sorption capacity can be specially tailored to your requirements. Disposal
