HiSorb water absorbing polymers are organic polymer compositions that are uniquely formulated to:
REMOVE WATER from
- Hydraulic oil systems
- Automotive and diesel fuel systems
- Marine fuel and lubricant systems
- Air environments
- Packaging of water sensitive materials
- Localized spill containment and collection systems
Water absorbing polymers can be formulated to absorb small and large amounts of water. Some formulations are "dessicants" wherein they absorb small amounts of moisture, and they are more effective in their uptake than silica or zeolites or some natural products. HiSorb water absorbing polymers can absorb as little as a few percent to as high as 400% by weight. Applications include removing water from fuel systems, hydraulic systems, marine reservoirs and virtually any environment that can benefit from a reduction or removal of aqueous-based liquids or solutions. These polymers are very chemically resistant and can be used in a wide variety of solvent and chemical environments. A major use is their ability as a fuel filter to remove water from fuel. A composition has been made whose sorption curve is identical to that of Drierite (anhydrous calcium sulfate) which is often used as a dessicant in the chemical laboratory. Another area of application is the use of sorption of water-based scents. HiSorb water absorbing polymers may also be used with polyolefin products to promote biodegradation, similar to the starch-based products already in the market, with the caveat that water absorbing polymers may be incorporated into any polymer system.
These polymers may also be used as a source of moisture for systems requiring water which will not volatilize readily. They can be used to produce water blown foamed products or as additives to liquid detergents. Hydration of soils in which water sorbed HiSorb slowly releases moisture to a plant system is another application, and they are more sorptive than the polyacrylamide systems.
WHAT ARE HISORB WATER ABSORBING POLYMERS?
HiSorb water absorbing polymers are completely organic systems which are formulated for specific end uses. This family of products can be made available in micropellets as well as large pellets so they can be readily dispersed or packaged in the medium of choice. HiSorb water absorbing polymers can also absorb alcohols from fuel and lubricant systems. To view an absorption curve of HiSorb water absorbing polymer click here.
IN WHAT FORMS ARE HISORB WATER ABSORBING POLYMERS AVAILABLE?
HiSorb water absorbing polymers are available by direct shipment from HiTech Polymers in the form of 0.125 inch diameter polymer pellets, 0.050 inch diameter polymer micropellets, or in extruded and possibly molded forms. These pellets are shipped as dessicants, and are extrudable, moldable, formable, grindable and foamable, permitting the polymers to be converted into the form or products of your choice. The natural color of HiSorb water absorbing resins is opaque white and may be colored if desired.
